All is well

A whole lot has happened in the 5 years since I've last touched this blog. Screening through the embers of yesteryear and revisiting writings that capture particular snapshots in time has filled me with a mix of nostalgia and cringe but we are shaped by the sum total of our experiences, and I have indeed counted a great many blessings these past few years which I continue to be grateful for.

I have since left our Tanah Air for neighbouring shores. It's funny how fast things moved and how opportunities I never quite planned for came falling unto my lap and into my life. I've been in a series of decent companies here, my lifestyle has improved by not an insignificant margin since I moved and my colleagues have treated me with much respect and dignity. Work life balance has also been a significant improvement over KL, better despite our neighbour's reputation.

Distance has also given me clarity and perspective once again. Despite all the many challenges Malaysia as a nation has, I have grown fonder of my Homeland. Yes our southern neighbour has done well for itself, at times I often marvel at the nation being an alternative vision of a Malaysia that could have been. However, in spite of flaws and shortfalls our country powers on and I remain optimistic in its trajectory though many of my friends may disagree. I also continue asserting my Malaysian identity abroad proudly, for we are all ambassadors of good will for our nations.

With the passage of time, I too now notice the rapid aging of my parents year on year. I am blessed to have had a good relationship with them. They've raised me right and well and we connect on a very deep level as a family. The increased earnings and lack of childcare commitments have allowed me to pamper both parents with various luxuries and experiences, domestically and abroad which allows me a sense of accomplishment borne out of love and not mere duty based on filial expectations.

I remain very much single but I have grown content and at peace with myself. Singlehood has its own series of perks, its allowed me the flexibility to uproot my life and go on a myriad of adventures meeting wholesale characters ranging from wholesome to odd. As curated as social media might tend to be, I am genuinely happy. Some potential prospects may have slid into perdition and momentary despair but life presses on relentlessly.

5 years ago, amidst a global pandemic and lay offs upending my life and undoing my career progress in a reset bordering regress, I was lost but I have since found my way. What seemed like the darkest of times proved to be a series of blessings in disguise. I have had multiple peaks and several falls prior, so these recent series of fortunate events are not unwelcome to me. At least for this moment in time, I am grateful.

All is well.
